I'm in Austin. Relatively close I guess.

I'm in Austin, too. Not close enough for birdie play-dates, but closer than a lot of the other forum members!

yeah, I thought it was cool to see that you were right in town! Are you a member of the Austin Parrot Society?

& having read what you went through w/Rupert last night (scary stuff), I fully intend to ask my vet who they recommend in an evening emergency situation. You know we're all hoping Rupert heals quickly.

Thank you! If you find a good emergency vet for birds, let me know? BTW- who is your regular vet?

I have been to two meetings of the Austin Parrot Society and plan to start going more regularly. I wanted to go to the one this weekend but we're a bit strapped for cash, especially after the excitement last night. Are you a member?

my vet is Anneliese Strunk at the Research Pet & Bird Hospital. I like her ok so far, but I'm not that thrilled w/the clinic itself. It's always a madhouse, & it stresses Aaron out more than I think is necessary. If you love your vet, lemme know.

I'm not a member of the APS, but I'd like to make a point of attending their meetings/events. For a couple of different reasons (watching the budget being one of them!), I won't be able to attend this weekend either, although I sure wanted to.

I've had dealings with Research Pet and Bird and I much prefer my vet. He's kind of far out on Parmer Lane though. His name is Dr. Campbell and I think the clinic is called Parmer Lane Animal Clinic. Every time I've been to the clinic it has been pretty calm. He is amazingly nice and very honest. He will not do tests and charge you a bunch of money unless it's absolutely necessary. I've called him several times with questions about my birds and he always calls back the same day and never seems bothered to have to call. He is not avian certified but I'm not sure if we have an actual avian certified vet in Austin. Anyway, I've been very pleased with him. I can give you his number if you're interested.

Looks like we'll probably meet in person eventually since we both plan on attending APS meetings in the future!

I checked that vet clinic on-line. You're right, that is pretty far out there, but a good vet might be worth it. A personal recommendation goes a long way, & it's nice to know there's an option if I decide I want to shop around some more - thanks.

& I hope we do get to meet in person! If I know I'm going to be able to attend something for APS, I'll be sure to let you know. :)
