Hi my names Alison and i live in uk kent I discovered this web site when i was reading an article by michael , so everyday i come to get more info to help me with my lovely Amazon Maisie

I have always liked African greys and went to a pet shop to see if they had any and they did, so while i was talking to the shop keeper i was standing in front of an Amazon who kept coming to the front of her cage but when i went near she retreated to the back but there was something about her and my hubby went ahead and brought her for me and now i am the proud owner of Maisie .

So here i am trying to find everything i can about Amazons and as i have never trained a bird before this is going to be a real challenge and hopefully a great achievement she is 17 weeks old now.

With training it seems to be hit and miss some days she will do the target training other days she is not interested, she has only been out of cage three times and will not get on my hand if i try to pick her up she runs away so i am grateful for all advice . So hello everyone.

Hello and welcome to the parrot forum. Motivation can vary. Sometimes birds are just not willing to perform the cued behaviors. Sometimes birds are motivated by treats, other times by toys, and other times by petting/attention. It happens.

Thanks for the welcome, today i made progress with maisie and it is thanks to the people here on the forum as i read all the posts and have found some great advice.
