Hello! I'm Lindsay, I'm from Ohio and my SO and I have decided to take in a few birds into our home. We've got two dogs, and they seem ever curious of our current lovebird, Tango. Tango's not too happy with them in general. I think they scare him quite a bit. We saved Tango from a pet shop breeder who kept all her lovebirds in two cages (about 5-6 birds per cage). He was the one getting picked on. :( He's a great shoulder bird but we think he wasn't handled enough after he was hand fed because he's a bit wild. He burrows and bites you if you get too close while he's 'hiding', and is quite food aggressive. We are taking in two other birds within the month from a wonderful breeder near-by. One is a male green cheek conure and a the other is a sun conure. I have pictures of both. :) You can tell these babies have been loved from day one. I'm already attached and they aren't even home yet! We think Tango will be better off in the capable hands of our breeder friend and suppose that he will find a mate or even just a good friend. He just seems too scared in the house with the dogs.. :swaying: He'll be happier where there are no predators! :swaying:

Welcome!

We have cats and birds... what kind of dogs do you have? We are pretty careful to keep the cats and birds apart, although the birds act as if they feel they are prepared to take the cats on! When we aren't home, the room where the cages stay has the door shut, and when the birds are out of cage, we supervise them closely.

Hello,

I'm Daniel, Lindsay's SO, and wanted to say hi to everyone as well. Really excited about monday when we bring our GCC home. He is so adorable and seems to have one large personality.

As for the dogs, one is a mini dachshund and the other is a Jack Russel mix. The jack mix seems to be calming down about the birds now which is good though she still gets excited when Tango starts flapping. I believe the dachshund just loves everything that exists so he always wants to say hi and play with pretty much anything that moves. Whenever Tango is out though they are always well supervised and the same will be true when we bring the other two home.

GCCs are a lot of fun! At least, all the ones owned by forum members here seem to be! They have no idea they are small birds, I think. They are sometimes described as a big bird personality in a small package. If yours is like ours, you may have to worry about the bird trying to chase the dog. Ours has shimmied down off the cagetop and chased our cat, running flat out at her and yelling "Pretty Scoo-scoo!" It's hilarious, but very, very dangerous!
