Has he had a recent vet checkup? That might be a good place to start.

He's brand new so haven't taken him to the vet yet. Thought about waiting until after quarantine (or towards the end of quarantine) for vet time... because I think it was sort of traumatic for Pi and might have shaped his first impressions of living here... but I dunno.

He (the meyers) seems healthy other than that he refuses to poop in his cage. I opened the door about an hour ago to let him out and WHOOSH giant poop on my floor as soon as he sat on the cage door. I know he has pooped in his cage before... because it was still on the bottom of the cage when I picked him up. However--I noticed that his previous home had not been using newspaper, and after scrubbing the bottom tray to get all the poop off, I did add newspaper. I just get the impression that he doesn't want to poop in his cage.

That could be it. His previous owners may have trained him to poop in a specific place. Call them and check on while you are calling about the other issue. I am sure he is biting due to stress. The change is traumatic for him I am sure. :gcc:

Hi
Having little history for Bronco has made life interesting for us and Meyers bite hard! Bronco hates my husband and has biten him 5 times in a row at lightening speed until he was bloody and has nailed me a few times. Now that we know how to read him especially his eyes or to avoid him(my husband got his own bird) life has improved and I haven't been bitten for about 4 months.
Bronco hates telephones and remotes so I use a speaker phone and I don't use a remote near him.Having him crawl up a chair and nail me on the back of the neck or bite me on the hand while on the phone has taught me well. He's taken bites out of the phone and remotes as a reminder too that he comes first!
As for pooping in the cage Pois are known for being cleaner and I have to take Bronco out for his morning dump because he'll hold it so he wont dirty his cage. He's the same way if we go out for a few hours.
At the moment he's adjusting to a new Aluminum Kings cage because in the 18 months we've had him hes chewed the coating off his EZcare cage enough to cause corrosion. He's a little stinker but beyond having to work with him to get off my shoulder without an attack, he's nailed me on the cheek, he's a "good bird" which he reminds me of frequently and has thankfully forgotten the "hey stupid whats the problem?" he floored me with!
