Aloha from Hawaii

Postby MrTurveydrop » Sat Nov 13, 2010 3:07 pm

Aloha! I'm new to the board, but found you after watching Michael's training videos on YouTube. I used to have a Yellow Naped Amazon, and am now looking to share my life with another. I have the opportunity to adopt a 10 year old Mealy male, but he has been parent raised only, though he is certainly more shy than aggressive. Any thoughts on this anyone? Mahalo! :amazon:

Aloha! One of our birds came from Hawaii! He's actually partially parent-raised (co-parented) but we did not get him directly from the breeder. I would think a parent raised bird would be much like a wild caught bird, and those were once the norm, so I'd assume it is entirely possible for one to make a good pet. Budgies are very often parent-raised, for that matter. But you'll have to put some effort in to "taming" him that you wight not have to with a hand-raised well socialized bird. FWIW. Welcome to the board.

You have a better chance with a Mealy than a YN, has it ever been a pet? might have your hands full with a 10yrold,but it could be possible.

My first budgie was parent raised. He wasn't scared of people, and really enjoyed attention.

Anyways, welcome to the site!
