picking up my cinnamon green cheek baby today :) YAY

Hi all

I'm new to the forums, and soon to be the new owner of a baby female GC conure! She's been hand reared by her breeder, amongst his many other birds, and i've been visiting her regularly for the last month and cant wait to get her home! I'm so excited! :D

I owned a smallish aviary of budgies as a teen, but have only returned to the flock in the last year, initially at the request of my 11yo son. He was desperate to own a bird, so we added a baby budgie to our family earlier this year. We had only had Charlie for a few months when we decided that one bird just wasnt enough!! So my 14yo daughter picked out her own baby budgie, Snowy....and then there were two :) :budgie: :budgie:

After lots of research on the web, and lots of Q & A sessions with a local breeder/bird shop owner my son decided that he'd like to try breeding budgies, so last week we added Jack and Jill to our flock. We're all eager and excited by the prospect of breeding our own little birds and cant wait :)

Now, back to MY bird :) as i mentioned above, i'm soon to have my very own baby cinnamon green cheek conure :gcc: I'm all prepared....a nice big cage, good quality seed and a supply of fresh food from our vegie garden, various perches, swings, toys etc. She has been dna sexed so I now know she's a girl....which i'm finding it hard to get my head around, as I'd sort of guessed that she was a boy, and have only really been thinking about boy names!! HELP!! hahaha! I want to choose something a little original/unusual, but not too bizzare.....something "girlie", but not too lame...maybe something that has a Latin American feel/sound to it....any suggestions??

Michelle :)

You can check out baby name sites like this one: http://www.suite101.com/content/most-po ... ls-a293906

But I would spend a few days with your new bird and see what happens... a name may come to you!

Thanks :)

she's a real sweety! Likes to cuddle up under my chin and have a nap...she seems content, although i'm a little concerned about the amount she's eating, or to be more precise...NOT eating. She's only 13 weeks old, and the breeder assured me she was eating just fine...just to keep an eye on her and make sure she was dropping husks, not the whole seed...which she seems to be doing. I called the breeder today and he didnt seemed worried...just suggested to offer her some mashed boiled egg, which i have done, but she's not interested. I weighed her when we got her home and then again today (almost 48hrs later) and she has dropped from 67gm to 59gm...do i need to be concerned? I've tried to do some searches/research re hand feeding/weaning etc...but cant find anything specific about weight and expectations of gain/loss. I would expect that a small loss when coming to her new home would be normal....but when should i start to worry??

Cheers, Michelle (now to be known as "paranoid birdie mum")
