AHOY FROM LORENZO THE BLUETHROATED CONURE

Postby idlepirate » Mon Dec 06, 2010 6:48 pm

Hey everyone!

Just joined the forums as I'm always looking for help on training and general parrot enquiries so I get to bug you all with my silly questions hehe :D

Parrots are my favorite animal and we've always had birds/parrots while I was growing up in the bush in Africa. I moved to the UK and missed having one so much that I saved up for ages and bought Lorenzo the little love thats taken over my world :)

I used to have a greencheek conure so wanted to have a parrot of similar size and character. I found someone who had a baby handreared bluethroat conure and found out they're very rare (endangered species even) but according to the seller "they're the only parrot which never bites"....well that's not really true I found out but that might just be lorenzo :) although temper tantrums are nothing compared to other parrots.
I can't find anything on bluethroats on the internet except for breeding info, so it would be great to make this species more popular and see if I can find anyone else with one...else maybe I'm able to post my own research on them for anyone interested :D

I'm already talking too much....

Lorenzo is fully flighted and is clicker training at the moment. So far he's learned how to -turn around; wave; spin around a branch/rope/finger/; target and fetch. I'm always looking for more tricks to teach him and just bought him an aviator which Im trying to train him to wear (so far i can only get it around his head but we will get there eventually  )

I follow killiparrot on youtube and trainedparrot.com forum and everything ive learned so far has mostly been from there. Really excellent stuff! Thats what directed me here I guess...

I'd like to take some videos of him soon and post them up because I really think people should get to know this species of conure more, they're absolutely wonderful.
Their colors are amazing, lorenzo's chest is pretty much one big heart (as youll see in the picture).
hes still young so his colors will come out more soon.

I will stop for now and see where this forum will take us

Thanks for reading
Jess and Lorenzo

note*******I'm trying to attach a photo of him but it keeps saying the picture is invalid so will just post the writing in the meantime*******

Thanks for the welcome Michelle :D
A cinnamon, I was so close to buying one myself and then I came across Lorenzo. I'm sure you're loving her/him. a collection of budgies sounds like a load of work, my mom used have to do the same for me when I wanted pets hehehe.

im attempting to post a photo of Loro again, I had to resize the pic
