Hello, My name is Dianne and I am a new owner of a pre-homed 10 yr old greenwinged macaw. Thank-you for the forum. So excited to get started!!! My question is; Yaklyn was a formally caged bird. She has no problem coming out of her cage. She is a biter and will not let me pet her and she will not step up on a training dowel. She takes food from my hand and has no problem allowing me to get close to her as long as I do not touch her. There is so much information in the forum. Please direct me to where I need to search for answers pertaining to this particular breed. Thank-you. I am a newbie to the world of forums and internet, please be patient with me...lol

Hi Dianne,
I'd start here http://trainedparrot.com/Taming I have a rescued cockatiel, & although he would step up for me in the very beginning, that was about all he was comfortable with. The taming link I gave you & other info I found under Taming & Basic Training was invaluable. Aaron still isn't all that thrilled w/my getting too touchy-friendly, but he's coming along - he actually let me give him some very light scritches (w/the tip of a shoelace mind you, not my finger!) just this past weekend. So, follow thru w/Michael's instruction & success will follow! :)

Taming & Basic Training is where you're going to find a LOT of help!

Oh yeah, also check out the FAQ at the very top of your screen when you have this website open. It'll probably help you w/a lot of general forum questions. :)
