Hi, Michelle! *extends claw* I'm pleased to meet you.
I'm new here, too, even 'newer' than you are...
Mr. Dodo and I used to know a woman who had a Mexican Red-Headed Amazon. Before we met the neighbour, I had no idea that such a bird existed. This was quite some time ago.
Oh, I was once very, very tempted by a yellow-naped Amazon who was in a local pet store a few years ago. He was a male named Chico. I don't know how old he was, but he seemed to like me. As the only parrot experience I'd had prior to meeting Chico was with budgies, I didn't think that it was a good idea to buy him. I know that I am a newbie here, but I must admit that I don't like to buy animals of any kind from pet stores. I prefer to rescue birds. It's a personal thing, I know.
Mr. Dodo and I are thinking of adding a dog to our family next spring, and we'll rescue the dog. I'm thinking a terrier mix as terriers don't generally bother birds, in my experience.
One day I wandered into the pet store to say hello to my buddy Chico and a salesperson told me that a woman had bought him. I visited some other birds, including an African Grey who wouldn't let my finger go when I thought it was time to leave.
Visiting the store yet the week after Chico had been sold, he was back in his regular area! "HEL-LO!" he yelled at me. The woman who bought him obviously had a lot of difficulty with him, and returned him.
You know, looking back, I'm amazed that Chico was able to be returned to his point of purchase. Well, it was a shoddily-run pet store, IMO. When I had to extricate the Grey's claws from my finger, I had to do so very gently as not to hurt the beautiful Grey. One of his nails dug into my finger, causing it to bleed.
One of the employees noticed the blood and asked almost gleefully, "Did he bite you?"
That's the sort of pet stores I loathe. Never mind...it no longer exists.
