Need help with a name!!! Indian Ringneck. SciFi/SuperHero?

Postby BlueIndianRingneck » Wed Jan 05, 2011 12:56 pm

We just purchased a Blue Indian Ringneck. It is currently an egg, :hatching: set to hatch in a few weeks. We have a while, but we are trying to find the perfect name. The breeder told us they come in yellow, green, violet (RARE) and blue. We have reserved a blue one. The mother is yellow, the father is blue.

The only one we both like is
Nila (Knee-La)- Hindi (Indian language) for Blue

We DON'T like Skyler.

Got any other suggestions?

Any sci fi or super hero names maybe?

I think Nila is a beautiful name. And it could go with a male or female. I think the fact that the word itself if Hindi adds a lot of charm into it.

Nila is such a cute name, and if you've ever heard an Indian Ringneck talk, they have such cute baby voices.

My vote is on Nila.

:) Thank you! We actually showed up at the breeders to put a deposit down on an Eclectus egg, and had never even heard of an Indian Ringneck. We just happened to see the teal blue father and fell in love with their personality. So we switched breeds. :) And our baby will hatch end of the month. :hatching:

I had wondered if Nila would be used for either a girl or a boy. We aren't getting it sexed, and won't know if it's a male or not until it is 3 and the ring shows up or doesn't around the neck.

this is going a bit off topic, but where are you and what is the price difference between and Indian Ringneck and an Eclectus?? Here in Australia a baby handraised ringneck can be bought for less than $200, but a baby handraised Eclectus is up around the $2000 mark.....

LOL, the midwest of America.

It was $650 since we hand feed, but I don't know what he charges for a weened chick. He keeps them with the parents for 2 weeks, then he hand feeds for one week before we get handed the chick.

For a Ringneck he charges $225. We are getting the same deal. With parents for 2 weeks, him for 1 week, then health certification and handed over to us.

The price didn't bother us, we just felt the Ringneck was a better suit for us once we got there. If you'd like, I know he ships. Not sure about internationally. I can PM you the contact info.

He raises EVERYTHING... amazons... Mccaws, Eclectus, Conures, cockitiels and more. He is licenses and vet checked. His house was cleaner than most people with children that I have been too. lol

Thanks :) an eckie is my dream bird, but I dont know if i'll ever actually have the pleasure of owning one. Missy, my green cheek, is only a few months old and i'm not ready to think about another parrot any time soon. I think i'd much rather pay the obscene Aussie prices than subject a bird to being freighted half way across the world...and I'd be very concerned about any breeder that was willing to send one of their babies on a 20+hr plane trip.

Good luck with your new baby... keep us posted :)

This is a little OT, but I have some experience with horse's traveling internationally and I'm wondering if it is the same with birds. With horses, it's all the stuff associated with getting to the plane, on the plane, the takeoff, the landing, and the quarantine after landing that are stressful. The actual duration of the plane trip is the least of it as that's fairly peaceful and monotonous (usually). Do birds react the same way?

I'm Tamil, which is a little similar to Hindi so I thought i'd throw in my one cent (i don't really have 2 cents worth lol). In Tamil the word for blue is Neelum, it is also a girl's name, in fact i have an aunt called Neelum :) so i'm guessing it's the same for Nila - but it's up to you, in the end you're the one that's going to end up with a gorgeous parrot that we will all envy you for lol
