Hi from Arkansas~

Postby Harley's Mom » Tue Feb 01, 2011 5:09 am

Hello
My name is Kathy and I have three parrots.

Harley is my Quaker :monk: and was my first bird. He's very smart and I've taught him a couple of tricks. He just turned two years old. He was breed in Missouri and given to me last year by one of my students whose wife had become bored of bird ownership.

Amos is a 21 year old Yellow Naped Amazon :amazon: . I adopted him in Oct 2010. He is a very sweet bird and I am his second owner. Amos was bred in Louisana and hand raised by previous owner from 1 week of age with another bird named Pepper. Pepper was adopted out the same day as I got Amos, but I don't know where he went to.

Gryphon is also a YNA that I adopted the first of Jan 2011 :amazon: . He is approximately 15-25 yrs old, ex-breeder and I just found out he was a wild captured bird.

I am mainly here to learn how I can help Gryphon get over his mistrusts/fear of humans. I've been working with him on clicker training and he's really come a long way. I want to learn what steps I need to take next in his training.

Hi from San Diego :D !

I'm afraid of amazons! There are amazon people here. They'll pipe up soon.

Thank all of you for the welcomes!

Wish you were closer, Amos would change your mind about Amazons. He loves everyone, not a mean bone in his body!

Thank you very much, Harley is my big bird in a little body. The Amazons and dogs are afraid of him :monk:

Hey Kathy, and welcome to the forum,I have several pet YNs as well, But mine are hens, Gryphon will need patience and time and of course some love, just go slow and leave him wanting more of your attention instead of him biting or striking at you to run you off, when he's had enough.Reward good behavior and ignore the bad.Find his favorite treat and only let him have it during training or as a reward for good behavior. Good Luck and check out some topics about training and taming, Feel free to ask all the stupid questions you can think of, i 'll be glad to help if i can, Richard PS a couple of short vids under the topic "Parrot Tales" of my YNs," Jake the YN" and "Stacey and Kong" we're just learning to play with video so don't expect much.
