Hello!

Postby MaliRegan » Sat Feb 05, 2011 4:53 am

Hi,
My name is Mali and I live in Alaska. I have a two year old green cheek conure :gcc: who is basically the best thing in my life! She has so much character, and lots of attitude! She makes me laugh every day, and gives me such joy when she initiates a long snuggle.
I am also fostering two late teens/early 20s CAGs :gray:. I have had them about four months. The female is a fairly bad plucker, but she does better some times than others, and she is a very good mimic and loves to give kisses and get head scritches. The male (they are not together, they have their own separate cages and do not get along) is very independent and can occasionally be a biter (not too hard though, it could be much worse!), and it has been weeks since I have been bitten. He is doing very well! He loves to shred apart soft wood and paper toys that he can really rip into.
Parrots have been my passion for years and I have been researching them steadily since I was probably about 13. I look forward to when I can rescue a second bird, and I have long since determined that I think a green-wing macaw would be ideal, but you never know what life will bring along! It will be at least four or five years until I will be in a place where I can really commit to such a big responsibility- a small conure is a lot easier to have in different situations than a parrot as large as a macaw! If I am never in a situation where I can be certain I will have living arrangements that can accomodate a full-size macaw, I also love severe macaws!
Well, I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I look forward to continuing to learn more about these amazing companions!

Welcome Mali and thank you for your rescue work (come to think of it thank you to all of you who foster and rescue animals). Rescue/fostering work is something I value greatly and would love to do, but I don't think I would be able to let them go when the time came, so have not begun fostering myself.

Birds are a miracle because they prove to us there is a finer, simpler state of being which we may strive to attain.
