Hello from South Carolina

Postby luvsmygreenguy » Fri Feb 25, 2011 1:41 pm

Hello all so glad that I have found this forum. I have found a few others online but not at all like this one AwEsOmE! So I am a stay at home wife and mother my son 4 daughter 1. We have 2 dogs a stray cat outside and I have welcomed into my CRAZY life with arms wide open to Pablo. Our big mouth, poopin, seed sling, giant tooth with wings....( Blue Fronted Amazon) Sorry but around here we have to keep everything a comedy skit or I'd go coo koo... So Pablo was my girlfriends baby for his whole life and well no she has new husband and a new baby and because she was Pablo's choice mate they were having serious problem. I haven't owned a bird in 20 years but it has all come back quickly! I talked to my husband about bring this bird home as my friend was going to place a ad for him online and I was beside myself. I was like whats next? The baby? Joking!
I have been around Pablo his who life and loved him before I took this guy in. My kids think he's cool and both little have respect for ALL animals. Pablo has only been here not even a week yet and well we are build trust around here he has cage issues and OMG the screaming that will scare you to death out of no where. He has a house door problem when the door to my house opens he flips out with what I call a sickening scream. And have no Idea what or even how to fix it. I have questions also about foods. I keep fruits and veggies in house all the time so that's not a issue. Pablo has never eaten pellets and everyone and every web site says pellets. So what kind? He has a dr. apt next month but I wanted to work on that asap. When is the best time to let him bathe and how often? And his beak is so long and dangerous looking! I don't want to sound like a dummy and I sure don't call me taking him verses selling him to just anyone a mistake I just need some advice form people who love there birds kids and can help with advice from time to time.
Sorry but the spray mist bottle was used on him by my friend to try to make him stop screaming so I know thats a no no so I trashed it. That and covering him because he was screaming I shouldn't do that either? ( I have not) I leave the room me and the kids until he stops then we return. And I have a perch in each room. But Is this going to spoil him? Help me to make this green guy comfortable and happy here with us. Thanks guys....

Hey Michelle, welcome to the forum, i would suggest looking around ,even at some of the older threads and you might find some answers, or maybe some new questions, don't be afraid to ask.Amazons tend to respond to their environment, if you have a active ,vocal household they'll tend to be active and vocal. I wouldn't stress over trying to fix evrything that you want to fix all at once ,but work slowly to resolving the most important issues first. His cage and perches, dark and quiet time at nite, and then his diet, then behavorial problems, it'll take time for everybody to find their place and i'm sure he'll grow to adjust to his new flock. LOL, good luck and see you around, Richard .

Thank you Richard! I do have a busy house hold and I have him right slap in the middle of it. He's part of the family so he is treated as one. He has issues and I knew this already and I know reading everyones stories I know he (we) will be fine. Thanks again,
Michelle

If he's like most of my zons ,he 's happiest being near the center of all the action.

Welcome to the forum!

I unfortunately don't have much experience with Amazons aside from those under 9 month of age, but as per pp, there's plenty of people here who do :)

Looking forward to seeing some pictures of Pablo!
