Another Canuck Checking In

Postby InquisitiveCow » Wed Mar 02, 2011 10:35 pm

Hi there everyone :)

My name is Eliza and I'm in Vancouver, BC. I'm a new bird owner, although after five years of researching, I don't feel like a new parent anymore lol. I had fallen in love with and wanted to bring home an african grey years ago but kept putting it off year after year until I was sure it was the right time, that I would be able to spend the time needed etc etc. I've been speaking with a wonderful breeder year after year while we discussed when the time was going to be right and she has been a wealth of information and ever so patient with me considering I wasn't making any purchases!

But...this year was the year! I made the commitment to my new baby grey and also somehow ended up with two babies lol. During my research and visits, I also fell in love with the Senegals and so I will be bring home two babies this next Sunday. Gracie (CAG) hatched Nov 26/10 and Larry (Senegal) hatched Dec 20/2010. I am extremely excited for them to come home.

I'm confident that I am schooled up on the basics but I know having them home will be a whole new world so I hope you will all be patient while I pick your brains.

I look forward to getting to know all of you and your birds :)

You are gonna have your hands full! What an exciting time for you. I'll be looking forward to hearing all about the babies and seeing the photos.

Thanks everyone..plenty of pics to post once I get more than five minutes to sit down lol.

GlassOnion..her name is Anne Van de Reep. She's over in Sooke and has been just amazing with me. I've been so impatient since making the decision to go for it with this years clutch and she always takes the time for my calls, invites me to spend the night so I can visit, its a bit of a pain with her on the island and me on the mainland. I love the care she puts in to her babies, I had other people offering up babies much sooner but she insists on abundance weaning and being sure they are well socialized and while I hate the wait, I appreciate and respect her approach.

The countdown til Sunday is driving me mad, can this week go any slower??

Welcome!

I remember when I picked up my cockatiel. The breeder had a bunch of Greys perches all over the room. I wanted to take them all home with me :P

Welcome to the forum Eliza and congrats on your new fabies :)

An African Grey (Timneh) is my dream bird ... its not the right time for me to get one now, but I will get one some day.

I can't offer much advice about your grey, but I'm certain you'll fall in love with your Senegal. I've had my Jessie for 4 1/2 years now and he's my little monkey. He is the gentlest and goofiest bird :D

I'm sure I will Laura, it was already so hard to leave the last time. I use my other half as my rationalization for deciding on two babies instead of just one..we say Larry is his bird but the truth is I couldn't not get him once I saw him. He was so freaking adorable and curious. Both Gracie and Larry were instant connections when we went into the nursery and I was so lucky that neither were spoken for already.
