Hello from Sweden! and me:)

Postby MariaS » Thu Mar 10, 2011 6:22 pm

Hi everyone,I am completely new here and have not yet had time to check everything out yet, hense no avatar yet;) My name is Maria and I am 24, It might have gotten a bit long but here is a larger introduction of my birds:)

I have two maximilian pionuses.
Maxi is born in the summer of 2009, almost two yrs now. I got him five months ago. He was extremely scared when he came to me. He had been living in a cellar in a way too small cage, and basically no human contact, at least thats how I read the previous owner(he was allergic and only went down to feed the birds) After letting him out the first time, he stayed out of the cage for several days. Not wanting to use force to get him in I let him be out, and started parrot-safeting the livingroom and creating playtrees for him, and swings. It is actually working perfectly for us, food is served in the cage, veggies on top and he flies freely in our house, at all times. I doubt that he gets bored, and no dangerous items is out for him to find.
Well he was pretty scared, and at first so were we;), now he takes treats when offered and we are now training flight recall, he flies to my arm when he sees a peanut basically, I can touch his toes but he wont step-up yet.

Gaia is born in the summer of 2010, I have had her for 3 months. They live with eachother and she is also loose in our apartment. And i have to say, they are like two pees in a pod, always together:) She came directly from her breeder(both are parent-fed) and is more like a clean slate for me to fill:) She can step-up on the hand, not to finger too unsteady for her evidently. training both flight recall and to touch her back at the moment.

I also have 4 budgies one cannot fly due to an old injury that is my blue spangle amadeus.
And Setareh who is a boy yellow recessive pied. Någit is Setarehs son and is a gren/yellow greywing(i think) and last but not least, Lillpommen also born in my custody standard blue. All extremely adorable

I am traing excessivley after finding Michaels blogg, wich is the best tool i have found to start traing your birds, I am so glad I did:) My next mission is to start using the clicker and target training to learn my birds more tricks. Image

Well thank your for reading! :danicing:

Welcome!

The poor guy, living in a basement. I can understand people having to re-home a parrot after finding out that you were allergic, but to keep the bird, and isolate it. I know I would rather have my birds be re-homed than to have them shut out from the world.

Anyways, keep us posted on your progress!

zazanomore: He probably ended up buying more budgies for the money i gave him for maxi. Sadly. And he had a whole lot of birds, and no intention of selling them due to his allergies that he had had for several years. It brings me to tears even thinking about it, but i reported him for mistreating/abusing his animals, and hope that the authorities here has made him change the animals circumstances for the better.

And on a more happy note, i will keep you alla posted on their progress and mine:) :swaying:

Good! I hope the birds all get rehomed.

I remember when we had a neighbor who hoarded dogs, the entire street filed complaints to get the dogs re-homed.

People who treat animals like sh** disgust me. We hear of so many situations where a bird is kept in a small cage with one or two wooden dowels, a seed cup and no sources of enrichment whatsoever. And then there are the rich people who do the same thing with large colorful birds as a showcase.
Speaking of cruelty, I also think it is cruel to keep a single canary in the same above situations- which happens even more often.

EDIT: Sorry to say welcome! I got carried away.. Hope you enjoy your time here. :)
