Hello from Arkansas!!

Postby Brady's Mom » Thu Mar 31, 2011 1:29 pm

Hello All,

My name is Victoria and I recently relocated from San Diego, Ca to North West Arkansas. It was quite a move for our fur and feathered family, but we're all settling in nicely. My parrot is a 5 year old Blue Headed Pionus named Brady a.k.a. Brady Bird, Pretty Boy, Crazy Bird ;) . He is the second parrot I've owned and the first for my husband. I'm glad I found this site and happy to see others from Arkansas here as well since it seems like there are limited parrot owners here. Speaking of which, does anyone know where we might be able to find a parrot store near by that would have supplies/cages/parrot wing and nail clippings? I can't seem to find any listed online. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I look forward to talking with all of you!!

Welcome!

I live in a small town, and I don't drive, so it's nearly impossible for me to get to any specialty stores. That's why I do my bird shopping online. Some places even offer free shipping on orders over a certain amount of money.

As for nail clipping, perhaps you should look at your local vets.

I'm new to the forum, but welcome nevertheless! :) And welcome to Arkansas as well, it's a beautiful area. I don't live there (I'm in CO), but I grew up in Tx and one of my dearest friends is in the Little Rock area, so I claim "area residency rights." (A made-up right, but it works for me. ;) ) I'd offer to help with anything, but I have more questions than answers when it comes to my feathered babies (about all I'm good for is a friendly ear), but we're glad to have you!

Welcome Victoria & Brady!

I hope you're able to find a GOOD local pet store which specializes in bird- they're hard to come by if you're not near a major city.

Online shipping, if you're comfortable with it, is a good start for your toys, accessories, and even food these days! With the price of gas these days, the cost of shipping really isn't any more than driving to a decent store.

Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I'm happy to say that we were able to find a little hole in the wall pet shop owned by a very nice lady and her 4 parrots. She's able to order pretty much anything Brady may need at wholesale prices, so I am very releaved. We were also able to find an Avian vet just down the road by her recommendation. So we are all set!! Now I just need to get some pictures of my pretty boy up here fore everyone to see!
