Hi there New here Canadian man who loves Australian parrots

Postby Polytelismedia » Sun May 01, 2011 4:55 pm

Hi Folks:

Don Kimball here. I dont have any parrots right now but have had plenty in the past. I spent 6 months in Australia filming its gorgeous parrots. I thought it would be fun to interact with others who love to learn about this gorgeous group of birds.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum!

Why exactly are you filming the parrots? Do you work with something like National Geographic that's doing a documentary or is it strictly as a hobby? Can we see these videos?

I love Australian (and South American!) parrots. They're my favorite groups and I own two little budgies.

Hi Kaylayuh:

I have my own independent film company:

I am a free-lance videographer and so its not really a hobby anymore! Although i love doing it just for the love of parrots. There is nothing more amazing than seeing flocks of free-flying parrots in the wild. Simply stunning. I wanted to see wild budgies especially since I used to breed them in my aviary and wanted to see where they lived in the wild. One night as I was going to sleep at an outback cattle station I had about 1000 budgies in one tree! Roosting outside of my window. it sounded like some sort of metallic waterfall..lol... here is an image from that trip:

I was very fortunate and filmed 50 species of parrots (almost all of them!)
Also a sample trailer of the film:

Hope you enjoy it.

Cheers!

I'll definitely check it out, thanks for the link! I love little budgies, but I can't imagine what 1000 of them would sound like. My two can be a bit much sometimes, especially the male, lol.

Welcome!
I hope you stay longer with us and share your experience about wild species- maybe something, that didn't fit in your DVD series? And yes I enjoyed every minute of your documentary!

Thanks so much Margaret. Did I understand correctly that you own the series? Its been selling well which is great but primarily because it allows me to share all of those days of filming with others and to see what I saw and was so totally thrilled with. Australian parrots are so amazing!

Cheers!
