As he's in a new environment and away from his clutchmates, it's a bit scary - he should settle down within the next week or two.

As per pp, a wood toy and plastic bell really aren't all that fun. It's kind of like sitting in an empty room with a metal box and broom. How much fun does that sound?

Our Stryder loves anything with seagrass cord, sisal, bells, finger poppers, paper, palm leaf - basically anything crunchy, textured, and busy. The only wood he'll go near is balsa or the larger chunks of Yucca, as they're a softer wood.

His FAVOURITE toy is our Medium Fireworks http://www.crystalsbirdtoys.com/medium-toys.html

The normal wood toys sold in shops are too hard for cockatiels, and are generally poop collectors.

Stryder enjoys a variety of food, and the younger you start, and more persistent you are, the better. He really enjoys rice, broccoli, beans, apple, and grapes, but enjoys a nibble of corn or a piece of pasta if that's what we're eating as well. Basically the birds get a sampling of our dinner (sans meat, unless it's cooked chicken - our fids are cannibals :D ) without any sauces or spices. We've spoiled them in that they only really like cooked veggies.

Enjoy your venture into cockatiel ownership - they really are overlooked as far as small parrot companionship is concerned.

My male cockatiel loved balls on a string. You know, those jingley colored balls with little jingle bells inside? Stacked and tied on a string. He would go absolutely INSANE. As soon as he got them taken down and destroyed he would run around his cage until I put a new one in or fix was he destroyed!
