Hi from Melbourne, Australia

Postby Mum2rory » Wed Jun 15, 2011 8:20 am

Hi All, I have been a member of this site for a few weeks now and check new posts daily, so it's about time i introduced myself. My name is Lynne and I have 2 budgies (flighted). Got the first one (Harry) about a year ago and decided he was so beautiful that I wanted another so got Billy a few months later, bit of a mistake cos they bonded with each other and not so much me. I talk to them all the time and they listen but they don't want to come out and play. they are very happy together in their huge indoor cage. Five weeks ago I got my beautiful little tiel named Rory, who was approx 7wks old. What a honey s/he is. Don't care if it's a boy or girl, cos I love him anyway. Rory had his wings clipped when purchased but I am going to let them grow back.

I have a big question! Why are these little feathered guys so addictive? I am spellbound by their beauty, chatter, their everything. I know so many of you have multiple parrots, so you must feel the same. I am now wanting a GCC but am trying to hold off till Rory is older and trained.

Thanks to Michael for providing a great site where we can all talk about our babies and get important info about their care.

We've got the exact same flock!

I say, wait. I know the moment I got my cockatiel, I started thinking about getting another bird. But you need to bond with your little guy/gal, before adding more.

Welcome to the forum :)

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will be waiting to get a GCC (hubby reckons he will leave if I add another family member of any kind - Yeah, yeah, sure, sure! LOL) At the moment Rory is the priority and since I have had him, the budgies seem to be more interested in me, which is a good thing.

Hi welcome! ( From melbourne Australia too ;D )
Im getting a sun Conure and can't wait!!!
We have so many animals........My mum thinks I'm crazy.hehe XD
good luck with the tiel, and I originaly was getting a green cheek.
When i went to pick her up, the breeder had suns, and mum and I fell in LOVE. I had to wait 3 weeks...Cause we are going away..2 weeks left!
Consider looking into suns, My breeder said:
if you are looking for a friend, a cuddly friend, Go a Sun conure.
Green Cheeks seem more jumpy and bite a bit. Although they are still great!
i want a friend, and the lady offered me the same price as the green cheek :)
Hope the bond gets really close between all of you :)
Hubby should fall in love with a conure! Who couldnt?!
EDIT: Not the same price $200 hundred more ( including deposit which is 100) Sorry, I got mixed up with the GCC because I wanted a male, and the male costed 100 more but she said she would give it to me for the same price if I REALLy wanted the Male GCC.

Hi Rachel, welcome to the forum. I am from out Berwick way. I went to a pet shop and they had both GCC and Suns and the GCC's which were supposedly handreared were not very interactive but by gosh the Suns were so full on, all over me and my son, and I will admit I did fall in love with them. The only reason I wanted a GCC was cos the suns are supposedly louder (and in this case much more expensive). I would be looking to get my conure, which ever one, from a breeder,(another forum member recommended a local breeder, whre did you get yours?) and I suppose, when and if I do get there, I will let the bird pick me/us. I too, live in a menagerie, 1 dog, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 3 birds, 200ltr tropical fish tank. Oops, forgot the hubby and 8yo son, sometimes I think they are more work than the pets.

hahahahaha.
Yes, at first whn I wanted a GCC I really wanted a sun, but I took the noise in consiederation, so I said no to the Sun.
But like I said, when mum and I went, we fell in love.
I found my breeder on trading post. She is in Pyalong, which was very close for us.
here is the link: http://www.tradingpost.com.au/Pets-Hors ... 1?AdOnTop=

If the link doesnt work, go on trading post pets, then put birds, search it, then put Pyalong in the state/area.
But, all 3 are on hold, but thee are eggs in the nest with one pair I think she said.
Indeed you are CORRECT about being loud. It's a matter of them being taught not to scream, if they scream don't run to them, because that is what they want, ( they LOVE attention...) Never yell at the bird as well, I read people call back to the bird sometimes...
When I went mum wanted to look at the suns that were breeding. They had eggs or well were about to lay so the birds were at their LOUDEST. I would have to say, their scream is VEY high pitched, and quite loud, BUT it was something that could be handled. hey weren't HORRIFICALLY loud. Just about 32 volume on your car radio.
My breeder, hand rears a little bit with the GCC but more with the Sun Conures. the GCC's are more active, while the Suns love you...and that can be their problem sometimes, because they scream for you.But it can be fixed!
Wait untill Rory is trained if you are getting a sun, and Hopefully Rory will be interactive and fun! Because when you get a sun.....The sun wants the attention haha.
Thanks a LOAD Rachel =) :sun:

Hi Rachel, you have used the same breeder as another member of this forum , who also recommended the lady at Pyalong. I have seen her ad on trading post many times. I havent really made up my mind 100% which conure yet or when I will get it. I have only had Rory for about 9wks and he is very cute. I want a strong bond with him before I get another (and last) bird. Have you named your Sun yet? Lynne

Yeah. Didnt mean to rush you into a sun, just saying though :)
I have no idea on a name :? Still thinking!
Cocketeils are so cute, ( had them previously) they are really fun, and once attatched, they are your baby! So cute!!! Too bad mum had a reaction to them. They are truly companion for life :)
Oh and also the breeder has all types of conures.
Thanks a LOAD Rachel =) :sun:
