Hello there

Postby neenz223 » Tue Jun 28, 2011 7:13 pm

I am new to this forum and so glad to have found it. I don't have many "bird friends" so it's nice to see this.

I have 5 parakeets (in that mix is 1 English budgie) and one right now sadly is dying. I've been holding him and singing to him softly for the past 3 hours, hoping his suffering ends soon. My regular vet is on vacation and there are no places around me that will take a sick parakeet! He was diagnosed with a goiter 4 months ago and I put iodine in his water. The last few days he's gone downhill but it's comforting to know he's responding to my touch. I feel terrible! I believe has a tumor near his vent too. Anyone here have this with their bird? He's 3 yrs old.

Thank you!

Alina :(

Hi Alina, welcome to the forum. So sorry to hear about your loss. I have not had a bird with a tumor, but I have lost a bird. I found mine already dead, did not get to say goodbye, so spend that time well, and get back to us when you feel up to it to tell us about you and your flock.

Aww, thank you, Roger! I am so glad I spent my whole evening petting him and talking to him. I felt bad putting him back in the cage as he was flapping his wings in confusion. When I woke up he was indeed gone and I was a bit relieved that he was no longer suffering. Aside from being treated for a goiter, I think the tumor(s) developed after that and he was only 3.

Because of him I get an "alarm" starting at 7 each night for bedtime. When he did he montone "tweet" I knew it was my reminder to put the blanket on. It was funny because the longer I awaited the more agitated the tweet became! That has since been passed on to my other 4 so the legacy lives on, ha ha.

Thanks again. As I said, I have only a handful of friends that understand the joys of owning birds so it's nice to hear other people's stories on here.
