Cockatiel Time!

Postby parrotlover » Thu Jul 21, 2011 11:14 am

OK So I've decided to get a Male Cockatiel! Image I don't know what colors the breeder has but the Cockatiel's should be fully weaned by this upcoming Wednesday! :P I'm so excited I should be ordering the cage today off of ebay! This is what the cage looks like
Image
This Cockatiel sure is going to be a spoiled little rascal! Lol

That sure is a big cage too! Do you think the baby will be fine in that big of a cage though? And if anyone has Cockatiel's I would LOVE :swaying: to see pictures of them! And maybe even some videos! They don't really seem to have alot of videos of them on YouTube though. I also made a YouTube channel! It's called SuperBirdsified. Maybe you guys can subscribe to me and post on the channel to give me some ideas I can use for videos! I'm definetly makeing a video of how big the cage is and how it's going to be perfect for any Cockatiel owner! It really is lol. I'm so excited I don't know how to explain it. I'll probably be jumping up in down in my bed the night before I get it lol!!!! :hatched: :hatched: :hatched:

That's an awesome cage, mine is the same in physical dimensions. You'll need LOTS of perches for inside/outside the cage as well as soft wooden toys.

I'll try to take a video of mine whistling :)

get LOTS of toys, especially foraging and shredding! also, remember your cockatiel is a seed eating bird in the wild, don't JUST provide pellets! veggies and fruit are the most important of all! protect against drafts and learn about her behavior to see whether she is sick or not. try to socialize her as much as you can when she is tamed enough! good luck on your new feathered ball of happiness! :hatching: :hatched: :danicing:

It;s mee Skittles muuummy! Hahahahhaha Ok.
The tiel' will most likely be scared when you bring s/he home because he was taken away from his home, when he seems warmed up to you start giving cuddles and let the fun begin. I was lucky and Skittles seemed to just want cuddles 24/7 he didn't need time to settle LOL But that is really rare in a bird. Who knows you might end up with a rare one too.
Also, when looking at the birds, this will be hard, but try go for personality, not looks, It is very hard, because you want the best looking you can get, but might be a bit spazzo lol.
:D Good luck, and also I was on a 1 week cruise and the day I got back from it, was when I was getting skittles, and didn't have fun on that cruise AT ALL LOL all I was thinking was Hes coming home soon YAYAYAYAYAYAY do I have enough toys, treats, what tricks will I teach him so on. I wouldn't stop thinking about it or talking about it hehehhehheheehhe
GOOD LUCK!!!!
Thanks a LOAD Rachel =) :sun:

Parrotlover, so EXCITED for you. Great cage choice, great Tiel choice. I dont think you will be sorry with the tiel if she is anything like my Rory. I spend as much time with him as i can but try not to spend too much, if that makes sense. I want him to be able to amuse himself in the cage at times and not become noisy and disruptive. I usually have him out for an hour or so in morn (play time, change food, water, cage wipeover etc) and hour or so in arvo and and hour or so at night. I try and alternate what times I take him out, so it wont always be at 9.30am, maybe 10am or 10.30am, I dont want his routine so strict that if I happen to change it, he carries on and stresses.
You do need toys but dont feel you have to buy 30 now, buy 3 or 4, make a few things youself (a tupperware dish with a ball and some pellets in it, a empty paper towel roll etc) and in a few weeks when you have saved some more $$ then you can buy some more toys and till then, rotate the ones you do have around in the cage, change their hanging position, (a change is as good as a holiday, they say, and I am constantly re-arranging my birds toys and perches around for their amusement)

I agree with Rachel, go for personality over looks. Rory and Bailey actually picked me. their response was different to the others, they wanted to be held, scritched, talked to by me.

So exciting, after all these weeks, you are finally going to be a PAPA to a TIEL. Any names picked? Cant wait to see pics. (I am soo lazy that I havent got round to doing pics yet, but I WILL)
Budgies - Harry and Billy
Cinn GCC - Bailey
Blue Quaker - Malakai (Kai)
Cockatiel - Rhyly
