New Parront

:greycockatiel:

Hi all,

Zeus is my first bird. He's a 3 1/2 month old Grey Cockatiel, hand raised by a great breeder on-site at their pet store in Crystal Lake, IL. I have had him for 1 1/2 months.

Since I'm a bird noob I welcome any and all advice, solicited or otherwise. There's a lot to learn but hopefully one day I'll be the one giving advice.

Ciao!

Welcome

Zeus is one very pretty baby.

Go to search and key in cockatiel. It should bring you up to speed.

We have some young people in our forum who don't have birds yet but have been doing a lot of research. Then we have some who can't remember their life without birds.

Hi there, well I have cared for a baby cockatiel for the last 3 months (and I still do!) and he has been the best bird ever! I got him when he was 3months from a breeder just like you. Here's some info about baby cockatiel care: - when you let Zeus out then make sure you close the blinds or curtains so he doesn't hit into the window, if they see one they can mistake it for outside and hurt themselves, - cockatiels love seeds and many people feed them just seed, I suggest you feed your cockatiel 20% pellets and 80% seed but do this when he gets a bit older (like a few months). Good luck with zeuss and if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask me.

I'm still new with little hands-on experience and very much in the learning stage so you may want to ask some of the more experienced owners.

One thing I do highly recommend is that you buy your bird from a breeder, not a pet store. It will have a better chance of being hand-raised, versus the bird mills most pet stores get theirs from. There are exceptions though. The breeder I got Zeus from just happens to raise theirs on-site at Birds & Beasts in Crystal Lake, IL and he was hand trained when I got him. Their avian staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.

Enjoy your baby!

Yes actually I'm going to go get one from a breeder this weekend. The baby Cockatiels she has are weaned as well. So I think it should be fine. =) Good luck to you and your little guy though. And I think yours is a female because the red cheek isn't a bright color and its colors aren't as bright as a males. :greycockatiel:
