hello from texas

Postby kelli » Mon Aug 15, 2011 10:48 pm

Hi! My name is kelli! I am a senior education major, and have owned birds since i was 12 years old. I have had cockatiels, a jenday conure, and a blue crowned conure. My baby Misty passed away a couple of weeks ago bringing my flock down to 1. She had had a long history of compulsive egg laying that she finally lost the battle with at age 9.
I am now entertaining the idea of adding to my flock. I am particulary interested in a timneh grey, but am open to any suggestions or input. It has been a long time since i've done research on the various parrots out there. I would like a medium sized parrot that is not known for being extreemly loud. - Now I know all parrots are capable of being loud I don't mind rainforest screams a couple of times a day but I would like something that generally more soft spoken. Anyways I look forward to getting to know everyone and your feathered kids!

Hi! I have a cockatiel called Ladu. He certainly beats my old pet goldfish lol! He was my first bird and I got him this may.

Now onto what parrot to get. I think if you want the occasional scream, an amazon is quite good. They have been known to be almost as good as an African grey in terms of talking if you can tolerate them talking. They are very good, I myself would love to have one. Hope this helps!

Right. :amazon: Rambo rarely screams but will talk to himself if no one is listening to him. He even talks to the dogs and cats. Since his voice is so clear they go to him to see what he wants.

:amazon2: Myrtle can't hold a conversation yet but can ask questions and practice her words all day.

i think the smallest amazon parrot is the panama amazon. but even some of the others are fairly small.

No, the Panama Amazon is actually one of the larger Amazons. The smallest Amazon is the White Fronted Amazon also known as Spectacled Amazon.

Amazons are not quiet at all, and many are known to be noisy throughout the day. I would look into a Cape parrot because Capes are very quiet and are also known to be great talkers.

We have both a Green Cheek Conure and a Cape Parrot. The Cape is capable of making loud noises, but is almost always quieter than the Green Cheek. The GCC's voice is gravelly and hard to understand, but the Cape's voice is easy to understand. :gcc: :cape:

I don't know what your budget is, but the Queen of Bavaria conures are the BEST! They are cute, playful, sweet and they are a bit smaller than an African Grey. We love our Beaver!! :danicing:
