Hello all...

Postby beefenhauzer » Thu Aug 18, 2011 12:14 am

Ok, i typed up a long intro twice now and when i hit submit, it says i need to login again and loose everything i typed... lol It will be short this time.

I always had cockatiels in the past, and last friday i got a baby hand fed Maroon Bellied conure named Kiwi. I am very happy with him thus far!

Edit: ok, it allowed me to submit it this time.

Anyway, the first couple days he was home was spent just allowing him to adjust and started working on some good training today. Got him targeting the end of the stick over long distances (walking) and flying on command over short distances, (2-3 feet). Also got him started with waving. I felt that was a good start for the first day of working with him. (other than "step up")

I am pleased that he is not nippy at all, and seems very happy overall. I look forward to a long time companionship with Kiwi and i am sure i will be on here quite a bit.

Congratulations and I think your choice was a good one. Maroon bellied's are not that loud (parrot wise) and are known to be cuddly. Pyrrhuras are one of my favorites. and....

Hello all, i just have a couple of quick questions for everyone.
1. When i got Kiwi, the pet store guy said that it was too soon to tell if it was a male or female, but thought it was a male based on its behavior. How do you tell the difference between male and female Maroon Bellied Conures?
2. What is the difference between green cheek conures and Maroon Bellied conures? (Someone told me they are the same thing, and after doing some online picture browsing i couldn't tell the difference)

Thanks!
