Hi guys,

My name is Pete I'm new to the forum and new to keeping Parrots i will be picking up my little Senegal tomorrow. I have read lots of threads here and feel that i know enough to get started. I do have one question though after i get the little guy home when is the best time for me to let him out of the cage? Should i leave him alone for a few days to adjust to the new surroundings or should i start to handle him sooner? any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Also great forum keep up the good work.

Initially, when I got my bird, I was going to get him out after two days. When I was changing his food bowls the morning after getting him, i was greeted by my cockatiel hopping onto my hand and flying out of the cage. Luckily, the windows and doors were closed! My cockatiel was not shy at all, and I was extremely shocked when he flew out, I was glad he was tame or it would have taken ages to get him in the cage. It really depends on the personality of the bird, so good luck!

(be sure to keep all doors and windows closed in case he turns out like my cockatiel LoL) :senegal:

I would take him out a few times on the first day, but in short 10-20min sessions.
