Hello birdworld !

Postby Birdyluvs » Thu Sep 08, 2011 4:02 pm

We would like to find out more information about the Parrot Asthma Syndrome or pulmonary hypersensitivity syndrome that is most common in B&G Macaws. We know all the basics of what not to expose to from cockatoos/dander birds to teflon but I don't see much out there about how bird families are living with the syndrome.Maui has oral hydroxyzine as needed and injectable dexamethasone in case of severe attack. We use the humidifier & purifier. I also have oxygen and the vet has recommended a nebulizer as needed. We bathe him one to two times daily and have realized that when he starts slight breathing episodes if we spray mist him especially in the face area it helps ALOT. Has anyone out there figured out anything new and helpful?? We made it thru the summer months June-August without any meds using soak baths outside and all the summer fresh air.I actually had a yard sale and sold all my teflon and purchased new cookware only after crazypsycho research about what is birdsafe.
The last two episodes he had were from paint fumes.we did some touch up painting and I just wasnt thinking so NO MORE PAINTING for me !!!
We love our birds so much-feed them better than we eat !! They get Harrisons diet,r/o water, fresh fruit and veggies, clean cages daily, lots of toys and attention...i just wish there was more out there on how to live with this breathing hypersensitivity.
Nice to meet all of you in the birdyworld!! Deborah,Maui,Tango & Louie
