Another UK member

Hi,

I'm Beckie, aged 34years.

I've kept birds from being 7 year old, the species I have most experience with is budgies - I have a large indoor aviary in which my husband and I keep our 9 boy budgies, as well as 5 other budgies (our girls). Our flocks contain a variety of colours, including albinos, spangles, diluted pied, dominant pied, and blue faced type I and type IIs. Some of our budgies were adopted by us, others are from a clutch we reared.

In addition to the budgies we have 2 tiels, 2 diamond doves, 2 canaries, and the most recent addition to our family, our first Green Cheek Conure Pepsi (we have only had him 10 days, he was hand reared and is such a softy, he is 10 weeks old and loves snuggles and laying on his back in my hand)

As you have no doubt guessed birds are my passion - believe it or not when I met my husband 6 years ago he was scared of them, back then I just had the two budgies, needless to say his love for these feathered creatures has grown, a long with the size of our flock (and the house size!!!)

When I'm not busy with the birds I work full time as a Customer Service Manager in a Contact Centre.

Thats exactly why I am here (to learn), and hopefully share some of my experience with others too.

Whilst I have quite a bit of experience with budgies, I have only really branched out over the last 2 years, and I have quickly learnt no two species are the same.

I've wanted a GCC for years, and so did a lot of reading up beforehand (I also joined the Parrot Society so that I can get as mcuh uptodate info as possible). However it's now that the learning really starts! :thumbsup:

No two birds are the same. Each individual has it's own personality.

Rambo and Myrtle of course know each others names. I am surprised that they keep the names of the other critters straight. What really surprises me is the tiels. Not only do they know their names but they know each others names. Of course they don't say them but they acknowlege the one I am talking to.

Rambo and Myrtle know who I am talking to not by me calling them by name but by which direction I am talking. They are such smart kids. I am amazed every day.
