crimson rosella owner UK

Postby April » Sun Sep 25, 2011 10:52 am

Hi, I have had Dexter (crimson Rosella) for nearly 2 months now and he is a lovely bird but seems to be very timid, does not like eye contact or hands going anywhere near him. But he will come and sit on my knee if I have food for him eg.. fruit or millet seed. Dexter doesn't seem to like my husband but the other night he sat on his knee and waited for him to finish eating a chocolate bar and then took the wrapper from him which he then spent a long time chewing and playing with.

Welcome to the forum.

Chocolate paper has chocolate residue. Have your husband give him a Cherrio or some other kind of cereal chunk.

Hi thankyou, I never thought about that, thats probably why he goes nuts for it thank you I will tell him. Dexter does love his fruit. I cannot seem to get him to step up which is rather disapointing, he will target when it's near him.

Try holding a little piece of fruit in the other hand so he has to step on your finger to get to it.
:amazon: Rambo only steps up when he wants something. It is usually to hitch a ride somewhere in the house so he doesn't have to climb down and walk. If I ask him if he wants to visit Grandmom he will put a little foot out to tell me. He goes in reverse too. When he is out I ask him if he wants to go home (back to the sunroom) and he will step up.

thank you Liz I shall try that :) and they are beatiful Rebecca he is very noisy which I don't mind at all but he makes an awful barking like noise Ihave read so much information on them and can't remember the reason for it think I am going to have to have another read. He also chews everything which I would put down to boredom or exploring I try to do lots of things with him but he seems too timid to join me, but he definately shows an interest like he wants to but it too scared to. Dexter will come and sit on my knee and eat if I have something he likes so I seem to be getting somewhere it's just taking time :D

I am from washington, Tyne and Wear. I have an eastern rosella called nolan ive had him for about 6 months we are working on hand taming its taking a long time but some progress is being made. he had become less timid of hands, he will step up on to my hand for a treat if he is hungry (try taking his food away for a few hours and let him have a fly around so that he is hungry) depending on what mood he is in. ive found he is easier to work with on an afternoon. he likes listening to music, and loves his bath. he has also reacently started landing on the floor when out of his cage where before he tended to land on high objects like picture frames. he also loves his bath. if you find anthing that works let me know we can share tips x x Nolan will always step up for a strawberry
