My "theory" behind it is that Id like to train him to stay in his space and my dogs know that the cages and the play gyms are off limits to them. If the dogs and the bird are in the same room I am there to supervise. I know my dogs would never ever attack or intentionally cause harm to Nigel. I introduced them all as soon as we walked in the door with Nigel. It went really well! Bosco just gave Nigel a little sniff and went back to his couch to sleep and Mia is curious but likes to keep her distance. I just think it would be better if everyone has their own space and respects everyone else's.
I'm not stating that my theory is the right one, or ideal but I think it'll work best in my situation and if it doesn't work as planned than i will be open for suggestions and changes. :) Thanks for the input!

you could also get some sandi-perches they do help,i have some of those and have never had to trim my birds nails, though i do realise a princess parakeet is different than a cape parrot :)

Surprisingly the Cape Parrot talons are tolerable for quite a while as they get long. They stay pretty thick so it's not as painful as smaller/sharper ones on other birds. But once they grow too long, then it becomes unbearable. A good hand filing once a week to every two can be sufficient to keep them tolerable for a very long time. I prefer to let his grow out though and do a cut every few months though.

I have used a few swipes of a fine emery board to take the sharp tips of the tiels nails.
