I'm a nerdy type who loves birds. :3 From budgies as a child, through my beloved ringneck dove and now back into psittacines, I have had birds for somewhat more than 10 years.
Genji is a ringneck dove; he's going on 8 years old and is the only songbird in the flock. He's completely tame, and a real lover. I've had him longer than any other bird.
About six months ago, my nephew (who should not have had budgies in the first place) decided he was done with having budgies, so I took them in.
One blue, one green, all trouble; they live in the same cage and are much more interested in one another than me. I'm still working on being able to handle them; they came terrified of humans, and it's taken this much time to get them not to be frightened when a person comes near their cage. The budgies were originally named Adam and Eve, but as they do not respond to their names, I sometimes even forget they have them.. as well, they appear to actually be Adam and Steve.
And then two months ago, a coworker spread the news of parrots whose owner had died, who had nowhere to go. Four of them - a sun conure, a cockatiel, an umbrella cockatoo and a "miniature parrot." To make a long story short...
Enter Jetty, the Senegal parrot.
I'm here to learn more about training (and have already been browsing the excellent subforum dedicated to it!) and learn from other bird people. Genji is as tame as a bird can be, the budgies are not yet tame, but Jetty is beginning to pick up on what I want when I have that target stick in hand. Since he's getting the basics, I need to start thinking up tricks to teach him!
Hi, all! And thanks for setting up such a resource.
