Hi from NC

Hi all I live in NC, and own a very sweet and loving 3yr old female Cape Parrot...I know they call them something else now, but I like "Cape Parrot" I will be honest, and I am hoping this forum helps to reignite my interest in my Crazy little bird. I do love her and I take good care of her, but I don't feel like I go that extra mile with her. We have many dogs and are involved in showing and Schutzhund, and it is such a time suck! So I am hoping to reconnect with my "Crazy Bird" a little, cause at the moment I am not sure if she is getting the attention she deserves.

Welcome. Calypso is a pretty girl. I wish the male UnCapes has such smooth unblemished beaks. Orion really likes to chew on things and bang on his big bell so his beak is a little flaky. I'm a relatively new UnCape/parrot owner and like to learn more about other peoples FIDS. What's her personality like ? Is she a flier ? Is she a talker ? Is she a bather ? What does she eat ?

Aww, that's kind of what Truman used to look like as a baby (minus the mutilated wings). Do the female adults not develop red ankles and wing leading edges? Cause to me that looks like a baby Cape, female or not. How much does she weigh? I'm guessing she's a P. r. f.

Does she talk much? I'm curious how she compares to Lea in temperament and weight. Where's Natacha?

EDIT Here's a previous discussion about Cape Parrot naming confusion which will hopefully clear things up a bit. They really are the same species as the endangered Cape Parrot. It's just that for political/conversational rather than scientific reasons some folks have suggested that they are different species. Since those folks are passionate as their jobs are on the line from it, they seem to have a much bigger voice about it than everyone else who doesn't frankly give a damn. There is no central authority on naming species and depends more on a consensus of various publications. The IUCN Red List and the Parrots of the World Encyclopedia do not name them as separate species. I see no reason to call them separate species unless more conclusive evidence or consensus emerges. Our Cape Parrots are Cape Parrots.

I honestly don't know the answer to a lot of these questions. She does talk a little bit. I dont know how much she weighs. Her wings are no longer clipped. They were that way when i got her from the breeder, but she doesn't really fly either. She loves bells. Her beak does get flakey. She drools sometimes which the Caique I had previously never did. That particular picture was taken when she was very young shortly after I got her, I created this account at work and that was one of the only pictures I had access to. Although admittedly I don't have many pictures of her. The tips of her wings(like her shoulderish region) is orange now...she has no ankle bracelet like my last bird did can someone enlighten me as to why she doesn't?? As for the exact specis of whatever kind of bird she is I guess I don't really know that either. I bought her and she was sold to me as a "cape parrot" so that's what I've always referred to her as.

She is a very sweet and loving bird loves to play and peanuts are her favorite. Although I don't give her many cause if I treat her often she gets to where she prefers not to eat her food and will throw it all on the floor for the dogs.(she thinks this is a fun game) she then calls herself a "naughty bird" and repeats. She tells me "night night" when i cover her cage...and when I yell at the dogs to do something she follows it up with "now!"

Your Fids is beautiful. Welcome to the forum! I am sure that you give her good atention, but a parrot can never have enough. We interact with our little guys for several hours each day, and my sun conure still does not like to just hang out with us. I am sure that you will have many more wonderful years with yours. How long do capes live...I am not extremely familiar with them.
