Hello from Austria ( Europe )

Postby Marown » Fri Nov 11, 2011 3:43 am

Hello every one!

My name is Tony. Im 22 years old and im from Austria in Europe.
I am reading a lot in this Forum and on the blog to get ready to get two Parrots.

I always wanted to have two birds but i never knew if im rdy for it or if i am a bird person.
However 6 months ago i met my girlfrend and she got 4 :budgie: budgie's
I played with them and after a wile i saied to me im ready for parrots.

I started reading and reading to get ready. On the 7.December its my birthday and my family and my girlfrend will get me two Senegal Parrots.

2 Days ago we where at the breeder and we saw the parrots.
Two Senegal Parrots ( brother and sisster ) one year old. They got breed by their Parrents. So unfortunately they are not hand breeded. They are soooo lovley and look realy great an healthy!
Here are a fiew pictures that i made at the breeder:

I get every thing rdy for them but i still have a question.

I read very much about that, parants breed birds are hard to get to know to humans. I want them to get tame so i can train them.
Is it a problem that they are one year old without a training? Is it realistic they will learn to get treats and learn the target training?
I want them in one cage together is that okey?

Im pritty mutch new on this topic but i would realy love to get them tame and have some fun withe them together like tha wizard of parrots =)

Thanks very mutch for your help!
On this point i want to say this forum and the blog was helping me very mutch to get ready for my parrots!! I realy thank you for this chance!

best regards
Tony

p.s. Im sorry english isnt my mother language so i think there are pretty mutch mistakes in the text.
Im sorry fore that!!

Welcome to the forum.

English is my only language and I still don't get it right. Don't worry about that.

Anything can become tame with love and care.

If they are together now - they can be kept together. It would be better for them.

The Wizard will have to help you with the rest.

Don't try to force them to like you. They will feel your love and come around.
Don't put treets in the cage. They should learn that the treets come with you.

Good Morning =)

Yesterday I have got my two Senegal Parrots. They are sooo cute !! =) :senegal: :senegal:

Image

Now i hope i am getting some tips so i can get to the click training.
They dont freak out when im standing near the cage.
But when i want to Feed them with a treet they change the side of the cage.

They dont scream or so they just look at me quietly.
When i get realy slow to the cage i can get my hand near to them.

The where feed with seeds. So i gave them a mix of seeds and palats.

Do you have any advices to get them taking the treets out of my hand ?

Tank for your help =)

best regards Toni

p.s. is it better that the cage is in a seperate room where im not all the time, or is it better if the cage is in the room where i am all the time??

Don't worry about the fact that they were parent-raised. In fact, parent-raised birds have fewer psychological and behavioral problems later in life! :)

They are shy because they don't know you yet. Try to eat breakfast near the cage and talk to them nicely so they can get used to you and your voice. I think it's best to put the cage in a part of the house where you are a lot (birds are interested in watching the activity of the house) but put them where they will get at least 10 hours of dark and quiet at night so they can sleep.

I see you have dowel perches in your cage. You need to give them a variety of perches with different sizes and textures so their feet stay in good shape. And put a few more toys in the cage so they can stay busy when you are out of the house. You especially need shreddable toys and chew toys to help them wear down their beaks. Their beaks and nails will grow throughout their lives.

Enjoy your new birds! :D

Hi there,

I live in the states but since our family is in Slovakia, we travel to Vienna a lot. Last time we were there, an Austrian pet shop owner told us that in Austria, there are very strict regulations as to who can own parrots...such as parrots always have to be bought in a pair, and the owner must own an aviary, etc...
Is this true? I thought I never wanted to move to Vienna if I cannot bring my conure with me... :sun: I don't think we can afford to an outside aviary in Vienna!
