I am the proud owner of a 5 month old Pied budgie - not too inexperienced however as kept a budgie when I was a teen... but when I left for uni (college) they didn't want to look after him in my absence and gave him to family friend. I'm happy report he's alive and very happy, he will be 9 next Feb.
He's their daughter's pet now so not being able to ask for him back, I decided to source one from a local pet shop on the verge of closing down. When I took him home (a month ago) I noticed he had things crawling over him, which I now believe where white mites but they have appeared to vanish after I gave him a shower and he preened himself. No holes in feathers now and he sleeps perfectly so I guess all is well.
I'm following Michael & Kathleen's brilliant taming/stepup guide and things are progressing nicely, he's grasped 'target'. Trying to get him eating fruit isn't going so well, he's not realising they're edible...
Oh, and a preemptive 'Hello' to Liz
