Hi, I'm @b$+r@I<+! :) I Need HELP!

Hi everyone! Very happy to have found this forum, as I'm in a bit of a predicament at the moment regarding my (deceased Grandmothers) male Rainbow Lorikeet (SHE) named 'Beauty'! I'm solely responsible for this bird, two dogs and 9 cats nearly year round, as I watch my Grandfathers house in Maine, while he's in Florida.
I'm also 29 not 69, so I'm trying to live my own life as well. I've already given him the past 6 years of my time/life, so he could 'have his cake and eat it too'. I also quit 9 years worth of heroin 6 or 7 years ago, so that's over HALF my life 'gone' at 29. I have aLOT of time to make up for!

I'll post my issues in their respective sub-forums (?), be extremely thankful to those who choose to read them and hopefully I can clear up a tough situation with help and ideas from the community! Thanks for your time!

haha.. guess what? There are a lot of us out there. I'm also an opiate addict in recovery. I've been clean 18 months and still counting. I have 2 birds, 2 horses, 3 cats and 4 dogs. To me, my animals are therapy. I enjoy them. So I would suggest just giving the bird a chance. You'd be surprised to see how intelligent they can be. Besides, birds bond strongly to their owner, so the little lori is probably pretty depressed, which can cause some serious problems. I know it sounds stupid, but just talk to the bird, take her out of the cage and spend time with her.

@ and dani you are making good progress. I don't know you but I am proud to meet people making such progress.

I take care of my mother and aunt who are both invalids. I have Lupus and by the grace of GOD I have lived 18 years passed the time my family was told I would not see morning. My goal is to outlive the elders so they will not be a burden on my middle age kids.

My life would be really bad without my little critters brightening each day. I have 6 dogs, 5 cats,
2 amazons, 6 tiels and 2 lovies as well as a daughter who works and leaves me with this bunch. HaHa

Keep on keepin' on. I am housebound so here all the time if you need some one.

hello I just wanted to say all of you are very inspiring to have overcome such great hurdles. I believe it is great that you have changed your life and have also embraced it with animals. @ I believe that you should just start out talking to it my tiel was terrified at me in the begging and it took him 2 weeks to even let me touch him. Liz I believe its amazing that even though you are sick you take care of your mother and aunt that is amazing. I pray that you will live many years and that you always have your little babies with you. I hope your days are filled with a lot of happiness best wishes
