Heya! New here

Postby Lullabye » Sat Jan 02, 2010 3:44 am

Hello all, I'm Ava from PA, and I have been researching parrots for a couple of months, trying to find out all I can before purchasing a companion bird for myself and my husband.

I have tentatively decided on a sun conure that I have interacted with at a local pet store.I fully understand they are loud at times, and have been exposed to the piercing screams he sometimes makes when he is demanding attention, but I am still willing to have this lovable little clown become a member of my household.

I have owned cockatiels before, and (thanks to the knowledge and experience I gained from working in a pet shop that specialized in birds) I hand raised a sweet lutino peach faced lovebird for my nephew about six years ago. Unfortunately, we were struck by the tragedy of a house fire, and we had to re-home our 'tiels so we could pick up the pieces and find a new place to call home.

It has been seven years, and we are ready for another parrot. Our only bird at the moment is a pretty little pied canary named Tigs. And while I love him dearly, the house just isn't the same without the special kind of love that only a parrot can bring. Any advice, thoughts, or information would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome, Ava!

Sun Conures are such pretty birds! I'll be interested to read how things work out.

Best wishes,

Hi Ava. Welcome to the forum. We have a few conure owners on the forum. Look around and check out some of our discussions. :)

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I will definitely be lurking around the forum reading up on different parrot species, although I believe we will not be buying a sun conure after all. While the noise level isn't a huge concern for me and my husband, our neighbors probably wouldn't appreciate the beauty behind the screeching!
