hi all i am the proud owner of a severe macaw i have owned him for a 1week and a day i rescued him through work only knowing limited info on him and in that week we have boned realy well hoping to get some good advice on the way forward with my lovly skye

I feel like this is becoming a mantra for me, but check out Michael's Taming article. It will help you comfortably start handling your parrot, getting him/her in and out of the cage with minimal fuss, and learn the basics of target training which is important if you plan to do any trick training or flight training later.
