Hello from Dubai

Postby Komodeno » Sun Jan 29, 2012 7:50 am

Hello
My name is Nadia and I live in Dubai - United Arab Emirates.
I have 3 parrots.
:gray: Named Casco. He will be 3 years this February. I got him from a pet store when he was just 2 months. I hand feed him for about 2 months. He was eating on his own but not all the time. I did not know nothing about parrots and fell in love with him in the store. I can say he choose me. He came in to my hand and snuggle in to my arms. That was all and he came home.
Shortly after that I decide to take a Macaw. I was looking for a Scarlet Macaw but decide to take blue and gold instead. I was convinced by the information I read that they are better choice is you wish to train them. I start looking for a baby Macaw not more then 4 months but there was nothing available. One day I found a 6-7 months old Blue and Gold Macaw with a local pet shop owner. The bird was leaving in his house but was for sale. We arrange to meat. He was really beautiful and friendly. He came out of his travel cage, he step up and allowed me to pet him. So I got a friend for Casco. A Blue and Gold Macaw named Jack :macaw:
From day one the birds where together and spend most of the time out of the cage. They even sleep for long in one cage. They are very good with each other and don't fight. I'm happy because they can be out and we don't need to worry. They know each other well and have there limits set.
Just les then a month ago I adopted a Goffin Cockatoo : :cockatoo: - his name is Goofy and he is 7 years old. Very friendly and funny. He is like a clown at home. I'm still waiting some time to introduce Goofy to the rest. He was leaving by himself in the previous hose. Very good and loving family but they where travelling a lot and could not give Goofy the time he needed and he was use to. I quarantine him but he is healthy, eating well and have never bean with contacts with other animals. I'm thinking to start showing Goofy to the other two so they can get use to each other.
My parrots are well socialized. They both speak, Goofy sings and as per his owner he can speak some words.
I came to this forum to learn more about parrot training . I wish to start training my birds to do some tricks not just to be pet and snuggle.
I wish to know if I can train all of them together or I will need to train them one by one.
I will be happy to know if there is any one freom Dubai here in this forum.
Please let me know your opinion.

Oh, I don't think this forum has low traffic! There may not be many members on at one time, but lots of people are here adding information and answering questions every day.
Welcome! You should also check out Michael's training articles at http://www.trainedparrot.com
He goes over how to start training and how to teach each trick so it is easy to understand for both you and your bird! :)

Hi All,

Really Glad to have found this forum as I urgently require help..Last year on my birthday my husband bought a baby alexandrine parakeet as a surprise, and till then i was never fond of birds leave alone keeping them as pets...It was a huge shock to me then...But gradually learnt to take care of him ,named him mintu and now he is like my own son...He is an extremely smart, adorable and social bird...I guess we have pampered him well....When we are at home he is on either ofour shoulders and his cage is always open for him to climb to the top..EVen at night...The only time he is in cage is when we are outside...His wings arent clipped but he doesnt fly anyways...He speaks about 10 words very well and is a good learner...
The problem is that because we are both working,he is left alone at home when we are out and that makes me feel guilty..Also we cant even take a days break beacuse we cant leave him at home...We live in a small apartment which becomes messy because of him and so keeping two birds is out of question..I dont want mintu to spend his entire life alone, and want him to enjoy company of other birds, so i have decided that i want to find him a good home where he will be loved, taken care of well, given good atttention and where there are other companions for him..Kindly advise me how to find a good home for him...I know it will be traumatic for him and us also, but long term i think this is what is best for him...

I will sugest you to put a ad in Dubizzle and the good pet shops for adoption. Then you can see who will be interested and start screening the candidates untill you find the right one.
Good luck of finding the right person.
If the bird is not screaming and happy,no featherplucking you should not worry. He is probably ok and you can continue your relationship. I would not rehome if he looks health and no issues are there.

hi! everyone!
I need help with my :amazon: amazon parrot which we bought about a week ago its a 1 year old and according to my parents (who bought it) it was very friendly and calm during the journey from the store to our home after reaching home and putting inside his cage(which is always open) when ever we try to pet it or ask it to come on our hand it starts to open his beak to bite and makes a hissing noise and when no one is around it starts making loud sounds (which after sometime makes it unbearable)
sometimes i feed it with hand and she takes it i did that for more than an hour but even after that when i give my hand for petting she starts to bit
this is not my first parrot i have had 2 :gray: parrots before this but unfortunately the bird and animal market from where i bought them was infected by a decease and i could not save both of them :(
I need help with my amazon if anyone living in dubai rigga who have experience and or can help me out please contact me through my mail sohailrr@gmail.com
