Hello from WV

Postby weeksl08 » Mon Jan 30, 2012 6:59 pm

Hello my name is Lesley and I am a 24 year old in Culloden,WV about to pick up a beautiful Jenday Conure (hatched 12/07/11) from the breeder in the next week or so. Her breeder is letting her have a week of flight and letting her finish weening before I can take her home. It has been YEARS since I have had a bird in the home and I can not wait to pick her up! I have been going over to socialize with her every few days for about a week now, and I get to visit her tomorrow evening. Any tips, tricks, or recipes for me?

Welcome! She's stunning :) The only thing I'd like to stress is to not train her to be an attention screamer!

SO many conures, sun and jendays especially due to their loud calls, end up being surrendered because their owners let them become screamers for attention! Teach lots of independence from the start, and don't go running to the cage to let her out when she screams, and wait till she's quiet prior to letting her out.

Thank you so much for that! I have read a lot about them being screamers so I am a bit weary. I was told to only hold her for about 15 minutes at a time for the first few weeks I have her so she doesn't get spoiled. Any other tips?
