Sounds like your making good progress to me but you already know I'm not very experienced either lol. I am glad that Joe is friendlier and not so nippy as yours though lol.

Here's fresh pics from this morning :D

He has 2 wooden perches pointing opposite to eat other. Cardboard perches, which he LOVES (probably because they are softer). Hanging paper for shredding. A foraging paper bag. A hanging toy. A swing. And a piece of rope he just like to chew on :D

I have a few more items waiting in the drawer...I don't like to put everything in at the same because it freaks him out. So I add the toys bit by bit

So I've been trying to get Percy to go on his swing. He likes to play with it and chew on it but he doesn't stand on it. So I've been tying his food to the opposite side of the swing to force him to stand on it if he wants to get the food. (I'm talking about his veggies and fruit here, his seeds and pellets are in his food box as always). Thing is he tried to stand on it, and he noticed that it isn't stable (obviously), so he went back on his perch. Then I noticed that he managed to eat his food, so I thought he'd gone on the swing! But further investigation showed me that instead he was grabbing the closer side of the swing and pulling it sideways, thus rotating the swing and getting the food within reach.

He is too smart for me

Hey all :D Haven't posted an update in a while... so here goes!

I have upgraded Percy's cage a bit more. Did a bit of a shopping spree. Now he has an extra 2 cups which I fill with fruit and water so he has food in different parts of the cage now. He also has a new hard food perch and another of those bendy perches. And he has a new foraging toy which is a hollow piece of tree truck filled with food so he can forage to his heart's content. I have some other stuff in my drawer waiting to be included.....trying not to overwhelm him

Also, I am still trying to teach step-ups to Percy. After a lot of trying to make him step up on my hand i opted for the use of a handheld perch. At first i just got him used to seeing it while target training. then i was putting it in front of the target stick so he has to lean over it. The next step was to place the target stick further away so he has to step on the handheld perch with one foot. Then even further so he has to step on it with both feet :D That is as far as I've got successfully. What I am trying to do now is to get him to step up on it without the need for the target stick. For now, the target stick has to be there even if I do not actually target him. So I guess that is going well. The only problem I am having right now is that as soon as he steps up and I hit the clicker he steps down right away (before getting the treat) because he knows he did what was required to get the treat. Also, if I try to bring him closer to me so I treat him whilst on the handheld perch he panics and flies away. I guess he does not trust a perch that moves.
