Another NEW Bird Owner!

Postby Rachelmarie » Mon Mar 05, 2012 7:28 pm

My husbands friend lives on a horse farm. A month ago, she went out to feed the animals and a "bird" landed on her head in the barn! The "bird" proceeded to jump onto her shoulder and nuzzle her cheek and gave her kisses. She posted ads in the local papers and posters at all the stores near her and no one came looking for the bird. I posted here when I got him/her and found out it is a Nanday Conure. I've always wanted a bird, and even more so now that I'm a housewife/stay at home Mom. I now have the time to do so. My husbands friend couldn't keep her so she called and asked if we would take her in. I'm a bit nervous as I know very little about these, but my research is going great. Went and got him/her a nice big cage to enjoy. He was obviously handfed, I had NO clue birds could be so loving. He is def' making himself at home here. Anyways, That's how it all happened. I have SO many questions and am happy to have landed on this forum. I have no clue if it's male or female or age and am not sure how to tell (yet). We haven't came up with a name...it has SO much personality it's hard to pick one. Oh...and he DOES fly (which explains how he got out of his previous owners home).

I'm Rachel by the way! We live in Florida currently and my family is in LOVE with our new friend. Can't wait to ask some questions and LEARN. I'm an animal fanatic, and always have been. I understand these can live for a very long time and am excited about out new life together.

He looks similar to :senegal: ! I'll post pics later. lol

Ok...enough Rambling! :)

Hey Rachel,

Welcome to the forum.
How wonderful for you to finally have a parrot. They can be fun and loving. Sounds like you already know that. There is plenty of folks here who have posted wonderful experiences that may also be of help to you.
