G'Day All!

Just wanted to introduce my friend Lolly!

To be honest, I only started looking at parrots as my girlfriend kept on commenting about the smell of my pet mice
The more research I did, the more I was impressed by parrots!
Only 3 months ago, I used to think birds just flutter in the cage, chirping & nothing more... but now I admit that is a very wrong generalisation!

Lolly is my first pet bird. (not counting some backyard chickens when I was younger) She is a Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conure. I got her from a breeder at the start of April at 12 wks old & I couldn't be happier! The only thing was that she came with wings clipped. Hopefully, Lolly will still be tame & not develop a massive ego once her flight feathers grow back! :flapping:

She has settled in quickly to her new home, & though initially afraid of new objects, is happily stepping up to me now & very well behaved, dispite the few hard nips every now & then. She was also very easy to potty train & knows to hold it in until I put her back on the perch!
I love my Lolly! (whoever started to use "birdbrain" as an insult never had a parrot! )

Reading the posts so far, everyone seems to be very helpful on this forum!
Looking forward to making some new friends & sharing stories of Lolly!

Given that she is my first bird, no doubt I'll have plenty of questions to ask you experts too

Welcome to the forum.

Lolly will become more secure and confident when she is able to fly. My Amazon, Myrtle, went from intravert to extravert. Also, those little bird brains know a lot and will learn even more. Mine even work together to pull things on me.

Do you have cockatiels in your yard? It must be wonderful to be where they are wild and free.

Thanks for the warm welcomes!

Liz, we actually rarely see (or at least I haven't) any wild cockatiels in suburban Sydney.
I think they usually live near the drier places, rather than on the coast. I recall seeing a video sequence somewhere, of them flying in a massive flock over one of the South Australian lakes - beautiful sight!

Rather, I get a few pairs of Rainbow Lorikeets flying onto my balcony. They nest in some of the Gum trees nearby.
Kookaburras, Galahs, Sulfur-crests also come quite frequently.
I've also seen a Tawny Frogmouth perched there during the afternoon last yr!

It would be wonderful to see beautiful flocking birds. The only flockers we have are Starlings. Yes they are beautiful. They are solid black and shiney that glows green and blue when in the sun. Our prettiest bird is a Carninal. They don't flock but they are here year round. The males are a bright red but the females are brown.

My dream has always been to go to Australia and volunteer in a wildlife rehab center.

I've never heard of a Starling...so I just Googled it
I don't recall seeing them when I visited California a few yrs ago... or maybe I just didn't realise.

And Googled Carninal as well :D
I recognise them from one of the mascots of a US sports team! Can't remember if it was baseball, ice-hockey or an NFL team though! Excuse my ignorance!

That'd be an awesome thing to do Liz!
The wildlife centers are always looking for good volunteers. It takes so much time, effort, & love of animals, but it is a very rewarding thing to do!
