it's been a while I have been reading your posts and I have been following Michael's blog .... and finally here I am, officially registered. So let me introduce myself and my feathered-family.
My name is Aline. I live in Montreal (Canada) with my boyfriend and our 5 fids:
Pesho, a male alexandrine who is 15+ years old, adopted through a rescue about 5 years ago. He has been plucking his feathers most of his life, but since he is part of the family he has been getting better at every molt.
Echo, a female timneh grey, also adopted about 1 year and a half ago through a rescue. She is 13+ years old and is also mutilating her feathers, but rather overpreening them instead of plucking. We are still working on getting some fuzz over her belly.
Akilles, a male indian ringneck, also adopted from a rescue at 8 months of age, 2 years ago, which makes him about 3 years old at the moment. He is a beautiful bird, has learned a lot from his older brother Pesho, but very independent, fully feathered, loves flying and forraging and is in a very intense teenage hormonal crisis right now.
Mango and Kiwi, a female and a male peachface lovebirds, are the "elders" of the feathered-family. They were there before everyone else from our current flock, they were adopted as a couple about 8 years ago, as they were still black-beaked babies from a breeder who was getting rid of them. They are in great health for their age, except for some arthritis that has developed in the last year or so.
Anyhow, I have had birds most of my life, now I'm in my 30s, but as far as I can remember we had budgies and canaries at home... and chickens..... and then later lovebirds...
Parrots have become my passion, along with behavior, nutrition, training, and I am very glad to be part of this new forum!
