Hello - this is the first time I have found this site and it is for a sad reason. My 7 year old Senegal parrot over the past couple of years has started to totally destroy her feathers. I think it was caused initially be stress when we moved house. However, when we occasionally go away on holiday and she is cared for by someone else, she does it even more. Having just returned from a week's holiday, she has now totally destroyed her primary flight feathers. She snips off all the filaments leaving only the shafts. She can now no longer fly around the room as she used to. Her frustration is awful to see. I am very sad about this and have consulted an avian vet who has suggested that re-homing in an environment with other senegals may be the best way forward to give her a better life.
Whilst I would be sad to see her go, I only want what is best for her. Does anyone know of any collectors/breeders of senegals in the Sussex area of England who I could contact?
Shirley
