Postby carablue028 » Sat Jun 02, 2012 10:46 am

Hi everyone im new to the forum, Would love any help/suggestions that anybody can give me :)
We bought a six year old Amazon orange winged parrot called Baldrick beautiful bird
we went to visit him a few times and he seemed very happy chatting away
we have had him just over 2weeks and he hasnt said one word since lol is he huffing?
Me and my husband and 2 children spend loads of time with him and he loves being rubbed and talked to and he is only ever in the cage at night to go to sleep if hes unhappy he isnt showing it hes eating drinking so if you have any suggestions that we would be really pleased,
Must just mention;
Baldrick was with his last owner for 6yrs who then unfortunately had a stroke and was unable to look after him anymore and he moved in with his owners daughter for a few weeks but she didnt understand how much work/time was needed to look after him,
Many Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

The most likely thing is he is still settling in, it's a big change for them living with one person to living with a new family. It can take anything from a day - several months for a bird to settle fully, alot depends on age and if they have been in a routine or well socialised to new people, places and objects. If he isn't used to small changes then a big change is going to be monsterous for him. He sounds like he is doing just fine and will start chattering again soon enough.

Hi I have alot of birds and have done everything I could think of to encourage talking.They do on their terms. My theory is that their too spoiled .I think the trick is having something they really want from you [to please you] I havent figured that out.When I come home from work you should hear them .Thats when you hear all they can say [they really want to see me]and Im so impressed but thats the only time their really trying to talk to me. You would be surprised how long it takes for a bird to settle in. It sounds like your bird is happy.Thats a really big deal read our posts! :D
