parrotlet and brown headed parrot

Postby Sheila88 » Mon Jul 30, 2012 9:56 am

Hello to everyone,

My name is Sheila. 61y old and recently retired from nursing. Always wanted a parrot and now have some time to devote to them. I have had parakeets over the years, a few hand tamed. So much has changed with care and feeding though. No grit! Wonder how many keets I have unknowingly harmed in the past? And, pellet diets. Wow!

I started 'small', with a parrotlet. Echo is about 6 months old, 5 inches long and so cute. A lot of personality and a big parrot attitude. Have had her about 2 months.

Topper is a 4 month old brown headed parrot. I bought him home almost 2 weeks ago. Very pretty shades of green and the head is actually two shades of gray-brown,and he has big brown eyes.

I joined to learn more about taming and training Topper. I have made some progress; he will eat a small sprig of millet from my hand. Lets me move things around in his cage, but still growls occasionally.

I start as a volunteer, tomorrow, at a parrot rescue in Maryland. About an 1 and 1/2 from my home. So, hopefully, I can learn while helping out.

Look forward to reading up here and asking my 'newbie' questions. Thanks, Sheila

That's impressive that you can move things around in his cage.

My parrot who's quite tame and friendly is pretty territorial about her cage. I allow her to come to me (which she does willingly and happily) and then I take her out and can rearrange her cage. Hehe... I should probably work on that. :/

Anyway welcome!
