I'm Katia, I live in Mexico and I'm a biology student. I'm starting one of the first bird rescue centers on my country, with some difficulties because all Mexican parrots species are illegal here no matter where they come from, so giving them for adoption isn't a choice (they are all endangered
Exotic species are allowed, with the according legal permits (almost all people here own parrots illegally). So, about a year ago, I bought my first parrot, an adorable indian ringneck named Kiwi
He is about two years old, really tame, and has a lot of love to give! Kiwi has his own room in the house, with lots of places for him to perch. Until recently he shared the room with three canaries (one of them, Trufa, was hand raised when neglected by her mother, so she was also let out of her cage). Kiwi and Trufa basically ignore each other all day, but sometimes Kiwi defends the canaries when he feels they are in danger. He is like the big protector jaja. One evening I forgot to get Kiwi and Trufa into the cage untill it was dark, and I found Kiwi sleeping next to the canaries. It was so cute I decided to give him and Trufa total freedom, so now they spend all day and night out of the cage (you could say the entire room is like his big cage now). I don't know if this option could work in all cases, but I can see Kiwi happier now.
About two days ago, I just got a new ringneck parakeet, Lima, so Kiwi wouldn't be alone when I go to work. Lima is just 3 months old, and I'm just getting to know her... she isn't afraid of me or any other people, but she still doesn't know how to react on hands approaching her! She will bite out of curiosity any portion of skin she can jaja.
Iv'e had my account for a while unused, but now I have some questions you parrot experts might be able to respond, as well as some experiences to share
Greetings to all!!
