Soon to be budgie owner (again!)

Postby ishael » Sun Sep 16, 2012 11:48 am

Hello!
I just discovered this forum whilest researching budgies and their needs and decided to join to learn more about birds! I'm a young student from Alberta, Canada with two dogs. :)
I don't currently have any birds, however I have had them in the past! My first bird (i was only 8) was a budgie named Skyy who I loved and who loved me to death. Sadly he died at the age of three. After him we decided to try out cockatiels, and we got what were suppost to be a brother and sister from a family friend, but they both turned out to be males. We rehomed them to very loving families who would appreciate them a little more that we did at the time... I wish I had them now that i am older, I'm sure that with my knowledge now I would have taken better care of them.
I'm currently studying dog pshychology and dogs continue to be my favorite animals, but I have always loved birds... They will always hold a special place in my heart. After making a mistake with my current dog (mostly getting him when I was too young and not socializing him right) I am making sure that getting another pet this time around will be something i take very seriously and I want my bird and it's behavior to reflect that.
This past week I got a job at Petland (I have never had a retail job and with very little experience, I had to start somewhere). However I haven't even gone through training yet, just an orientation. At this point I hope I can simply do well in the job for a short while, build some experience in the animal industry, and move on to some sort of serious animal behaviour or care, whether it be grooming, training, fostering, etc.
So there is a little bit about me, I hope I have a great experience cruising around this forum! :budgie:

Welcome to the forums, I hope your new budgie settles well when you get him/her.

A big well done for admitting to your past mistakes, it takes guts to acknowledge them and put measures in place to avoid repeating them. we've all made mistakes but theres a hell of alot of difference between those who learn from them and those who don't. It sounds like your budgies going to have a really good home with you.

Thanks! I'm a big believer in recognizing mistakes, it does take guts! Its not always fun but its a way of looking at life...
Thanks for welcoming me, guys! I really appreciate it. :) :budgie:
