Hello from a birdie lady

Postby Songflower » Sat Oct 13, 2012 5:47 am

So I usually don't join forums but my birds inspire me too. I have had PTSD for a good deal of years and found that my birds..unlike any pet, have given me something special.

So the birds.. 3 budgies, one conure and a Alexandrian ringneck. The latter is my newest family member. My husband and I knew she was an intake, 4 year old breeder only bird..I have a heart for such birds so we did go and indeed buy her. It has been an effort of patience and perserverence but she has slowly been able to trust us. We love all or birds. Each so unique and fascinating. My hope is to one day find an electus female to finish our family one day.

I should also note that half my birds are flyers. My ringneck came to me clipped. They all were when I got them but I let their wings grow back. My conure simply refuses to fly.. he is that attached to my husband and I.

Welcome :)

I too have found that Jacko helps me with my PTSD in many ways. There is a sense of peace and calm that she gives me, and having to read her body language helps me keep my emotional state in check.

There's a beautiful sense of 'flock' and home that I get from her. and her quiet, nonthreatening presence and way she interacts with me with such love and gentleness helps me.
In having to help her confront her own dark past I have learned to confront my own.
