What to do

Postby Mzd1959 » Mon Oct 15, 2012 7:22 pm

Hi
We have been lucky enough to of had three wonderful parrots since 2000. Currently it's breaking our hearts do this but with grandbaby joining us soon we must re-home our parrot family. I have no idea how to go about this. I just can not imagine how to make sure who ever we may find (I dont' know how we'll find them) can be trusted to become the new owners.

Any advice? h e l p

I'm not sure I see the connection...

small home, grandchild coming to live here - something has to change. Currently the birds have their own room - big enough for 3 large cages - but this is the only spare room we have and grandbaby will be moving in that space.
I just can not image what we are going to do. Sorry I wasn't clear.

Consolidate, that's what. I'm sure with a bit of compromise you can both free up that room for grand child and find another place in your home for the birds. It's already unfair to them they are losing their room, it would be completely out of line to make them lose a home for it as well. Living room, dining room, maybe even your bedroom could serve as options. Plus, this is only a temporary situation I am sure as the birds will probably outlive your grandchild's residence. I'm sure if you try hard enough, this can be resolved.

Hi there,

Please try to find a solution, once you rehome your birds, they may be stuck in the rehome chain for life, being shuffled around. It is very possible.

You can make this work. Move the cages to the living room or the dining room, and rotate baby time and bird time. Many people keep their birds through having kids, you can do this!! :)

oh thank you for the encouraging words.
We would not want to happen - our birds getting on a rehoming nightmare. I've seen this happen, plus it's so hard to imagine anyone being able to know what to do and what not to do, there are so many dangers that the average person doesn't realize.

We have limited options - Living/dining/kitchen are all about the same room - not an option for birds. Possibly our bedroom though.

Yes I have to re-think this whole thing or expand my thinking - it's not easy, your input helps.

I'm new to this forum thing - just reading on some of the posts on various subjects - what a wealth of knowledge to tap into.

Thank you
