Greetings From Oklahoma

Postby Scott » Fri Jan 22, 2010 6:24 pm

Hi all, just another no0B from Oklahoma.

You guys have a great community here, I would know, because I've been lurking for quite sometime now!!

I will be receiving my baby (Ruby Macaw) around the beginning of March 2010. I will complete the handfeeding of him. He should be on two or three feedings a day when he arrives.

I have handfed at least a dozen Blue & Golds until weaned, so I'm plenty experienced.....and plenty excited.

So, for now.......here is a picture of "Rowdy"......and I'll try to get some more up over the weekend. His mom is a Scarlet......and his dad a Green Wing. He's going to be a big boy.

I'll get some pictures of his newly acquired "living quarters" up sometime next week.

Thanks for making this forum a nice place to be!

Correct.

I had ordered all of items I needed online (three different places) earlier this week. I believed that the cage wouldn't arrive until Friday of next week......and the other two orders on Tuesday. But, I received the shipment notification this morning concerning the cage, and it'll be here on Monday.

With any luck I'll have pictures of his living quarters up by the middle of next week.

He'll be in an Avian Adventures Grande Dometop.

Thanks for the welcome........and kind words!

Babies are really easy to handle.....and seem to enjoy all of the attention they get.

Juvenile macaws are akin to puppies. Playful and full of energy....boisterous and rambunctious.

Adult macaws share all of the above traits.....along with any "attitude" they have gained during growing up. They can most certainly be LOUD!!

As far as how big they get......Green Wing's are about 36 to 40 inches, and Scarlet's are about 33 to 35 inches in length. Since the father of my Ruby is a GW.....he will likely have (close to) the same physical stature. Just guessing weight.....I'd say 1.2kg to 1.4kg. It will be a very large bird to be sure.

Newbie to Newbie I say, Greetings, Scott! I lurked for a bit before joining myself- looks like a great community - have weaned a Cockatoo or 2 myself :) There is nothing as adorable as "baby birds"! Makes me warm and fuzzy just thinking of the fun you are and will be having with your new Macaw, Rowdy! I look forward to watching Rowdy grow ~
